Open Source Chromium
Q: What’s the difference between Chrome and Chromium?
A: Chrome is enhanced by Google with added features and plugins. Chromium is the open source version Chrome, without bells and whistles. Chrome plugins will also be applicable to Chromium
Q: What do you mean Debian-based Linux?
A: Debian was founded by Ian Murdock on August 16, 1993. It’s a stable Unix-like OS that many other projects spawned from. Ubuntu was a direct descendent of Debian. Linux Mint then forked Ubuntu in a similar method. Knoppix, Vyos, and a list of others are derivatives of this group. Hence, these flavors of Linuxes are considered Debian-based. Application install instructions for the family of this OS would most likely be compatible among these alternatives.
Generic Lines for Debian-based Distros:
# Become root
sudo su
# Add Chromium repository
echo "deb [arch=amd64] stable main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/chrome.list wget -q -O - https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub | apt-key add -
# Install Chromium apt-get -y update && apt install -y chromium-browser
Installing Chrome on Linux Mint:
# Download Google signing key
wget -q -O - https://dl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub | sudo apt-key add -
# Config Google Chrome repo
echo "deb [arch=amd64] stable main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/google-chrome.list
# Install Google Chrome
sudo apt update && sudo apt install -y google-chrome-stable # OR: google-chrome-beta
Output on Linux Mint:
kim@kim-laptop:~$ sudo su
root@kim-laptop:/home/kim# echo "deb [arch=amd64] stable main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/chrome.list
root@kim-laptop:/home/kim#
root@kim-laptop:/home/kim# wget -q -O - https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub | apt-key add -
OK

Official Google Chrome
In the case where the closed-source Google Chrome is required by the client for standardization purposes. It can be added to the system as a direct download through Google rather than via the Debian or Ubuntu repos. It’s actually quite easy. Run this command to download the debian-based installation package
wget https://dl.google.com/linux/direct/google-chrome-stable_current_amd64.deb
Install the chrome package
sudo dpkg -i google-chrome-stable_current_amd64.deb
Check to see that the installation package has generated the corresponding sources list for future updates via ‘apt update’
cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/google-chrome.list
